I’m an American software engineer working remotely, so reliable utilities are essential. I trusted this company to provide acceptable accommodations, but that was a mistake. I pay 38,000 DOP/month, supposedly including maintenance—but that hasn’t been the reality. From the start, they failed to disclose frequent blackouts and brownouts. These happen weekly—sometimes multiple times a week—lasting minutes, hours, or even all day. As someone who must be online for work, this was critical information they knew (their office is nearby and they knew what I do) but chose not to share. The apartment was filthy at showing—trash, dirt, and heavy grease throughout the kitchen. It smelled like pigeon droppings from open windows. They said they would only clean it if I signed and paid. After doing so, it was still poorly cleaned (grease remained on cabinets). I had to hire a cleaner myself before moving in. They also promised to fix faulty light switches—7 months later, nothing. I fixed them myself. My first gas bill included charges from months before I moved in. After I complained, they adjusted it—but this should never have happened. Later, I discovered a gas leak caused by a faulty gas connection inside the wall of an upstairs room. That room had been left open before I moved in; once closed, gas built up dangerously. I had to run out when I opened the door. They had been receiving gas bills showing usage in a vacant unit and never investigated. When I reported it, they told me to shut off gas and wait until “next week.” No hot water, no cooking—because it didn’t affect them. I had to hire someone myself for same-day repair. After that, I handled most issues myself to avoid the aggravation. I even contacted them requesting camera footage after someone left a cat sealed in a bag in front of the building so it could be reported. They never responded—but they always respond quickly to rent payments. Finally, outages worsened, and the building generator fails, meaning no electricity AND no water (the pump stops). I was told to use a rooftop tank. The water smelled like sewage. To inspect it, I had to access the roof using a collapsible ladder left by maintenance—this area is not safely or properly accessible. The tank had no lid and visible mold/fungus around the water line. When I reported this, they said they would replace the lid—but cleaning it was my responsibility. I disagreed: I rented a functioning apartment, not one with existing health hazards or unsafe access conditions. Overall, they consistently avoid responsibility, fail to maintain the property, and leave tenants to deal with serious issues themselves.
