Our experience with DHL Dominicana was one of the worst customer service and customs experiences we have ever had. We had a shipment containing a laptop (valued at $506.37 USD) plus several lower-value items, with a total actual shipment value of approximately $585.51 USD. However, the shipment appears to have been valued by customs at nearly double that amount (around $1,170 USD), resulting in excessive charges. DHL Dominicana demanded a total of 18,350.98 DOP in taxes and fees, including customs management charges and processing fees. They also informed us that after only 4 days, storage fees of RD$900 per day would begin, and that if payment was not made, the shipment would be transferred for auction through the Dominican customs authority. The most frustrating part was the lack of transparency. We repeatedly asked simple, legitimate questions: * Was the laptop properly declared? * What exact items were declared to customs? * What HS/customs classification code was used? * Who prepared the customs declaration? * Can we receive a copy of the customs declaration? These questions were never directly answered. Instead, DHL told us the documents would only be available after delivery and asked us to stop including other contacts in communications. When a customer is facing thousands in unexpected charges and threats of storage fees or auction, transparency should be immediate—not withheld. International shipping is already stressful. DHL Dominicana made it significantly worse through poor communication, lack of accountability, and an overall refusal to help clarify a serious customs valuation issue. Based on this experience, we would absolutely not recommend DHL Dominicana.
Shanon Ayala was amazing helping me. I have been here many times and she was always my go to. Keep up the great work!
If you send smart phones I send two phones down there they give me the worst excuse ever told me that my shipment as been taking by the government I’m disappointed I will never use them again a lot of people been complaining about that
Small wait but easy process.
Modern well laid out offices with plenty of seating for clients and ample parking outside. The process can be a little slow at times, but on this occasion I was in and out in a little more than ten minutes. The operation is efficient and delivery times to in my case the UK, around a week, rather quicker to the USA through which most mail seems to be routed.
