This hostel was beautiful the view, the rooms, the people. We were accommodated beyond beliefs and will definitely be coming back.

2 minutes from the piers, a nice view on the bay from the splendid breakfast terrace. It's a hostal mind you, it's not expensive, but what a place for whale watchers to rest and reminisce...

I stayed at the Hostal Marina Samana for several days. The location of the hostel is very central and the ideal starting point for various tours. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast on the roof terrace with a beautiful view over Samaná. Unfortunately, I also had an unpleasant experience: I asked the gentleman at reception if he could help me as I wanted to go on tours to Los Haitises, Cayo Levantado, las Galeras etc. He said yes, he would take care of it and contact someone. The next day there was a friend of his who introduced himself as Richard W.. He was very friendly at first and was also very good at talking to you in English. He offered to take me to Boca del Diablo, las Galeras, Rincon, limon etc. I travelled with him for about 2.5 days in total. We agreed that I would give him a tip at the end of the day for accompanying me during the day. That also worked well. On the last day, I assumed that I would also tip him in the evening (I had already paid for his lunch, which in hindsight was far too expensive). However, he then demanded 140 US dollars from me. After a lengthy discussion, I was able to negotiate him down a little. But in the end I still paid him far too much. For me, this was the worst experience I could have had during my holiday in the Dom Rep. I asked the gentleman at reception several times whether I could really trust the guide. And he assured me that he was OK. I can highly recommend the hostal, but I would always advise booking tours through official organisations, as you are on the safer side! The guide is friendly to you, tells you a lot and tries to build trust with you. In the end, however, he is unfortunately only interested in your money.
