Location is great if you want to see the Colonial area of Santo Domingo. The hotel is both classic Colonial and modern. The breakfast was great. The staff was a mix bag. You had some that were friendly and welcoming and others that could care less. Most were welcoming. The room (King) was okay, standard modern hotel room with sufficient space for 2 adults. Nescafé espresso pods/machine was nice, but during our 5 days stay 2 days we requested additional pods, only one day they left additional to the 2 for refill. It’s understandable if they think you’re taking them home, but we just happen to drink more than 1 cup each per day. We chose this hotel because it allows pets, which we informed them about prior to arrival. Although it is said that if you notify them, they’ll ensure there’s bowls etc for your pet, but there were none when we arrived. This are small details that are missed that can make a fantastic stay into an ok stay. Overall, it was an ok stay. The garden and pool are nice, but during our stay we didn’t get to enjoy the garden at all, as it was Brides week 2026 and there were daily events. The noise level was a little too loud for us because of the event and on our last night, they were breaking down throughout the night causing a a restless night prior to our flight home. Overall it was ok, but will probably stay elsewhere next time.
A Modern Oasis (With a Dash of Room-Temp Chaos) If you manage to navigate the backstreets of Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone and find this hidden Kimpton, you’ll swear you’ve accidentally stepped through a portal into the year 2030. This place looks so fresh it feels like the paint dried about five minutes before we checked in. The vibe is "luxury spa meets secret agent hideout." The rooms are aggressively modern, featuring recessed ceiling lights and under-counter glows that make you feel like you're sleeping inside a high-end smartphone. There is a gorgeous green oasis courtyard, and the fourth-floor gym looks out over a stunning infinity pool. It’s an absolute hidden gem, and it's within walking distance of the main tourist strip. That said, as a flight crew just trying to live our best lives, we had two distinct cultural experiences here. ### 1. The "Meat Locker" Dilemma If you are the type of sleeper who needs your bedroom to mimic a meat locker to get some solid shut-eye, good luck. The AC is locked at a European-style 23 degrees (73FI spent the night tossing, turning, and sweating, wondering who I had to bribe to get a crisp 18C. If you like sleeping in a gentle tropical breeze, you'll love it. If you like sleeping cold, prepare to be awake through the evening. ### 2. The Great Social Hour Bamboozle The front desk hyped up their Happy Hour (5:00 PM – 6:00 PM) promising free wine, rum, and snacks. Naturally, my First Officer and I showed up at 5:00 PM on the dot, ready to do our civic duty. What followed was a beautiful comedy of errors: * **5:01 PM:** The staff looked at us with absolute panic, as if we had arrived for a party that was scheduled for next month. They banished us to a corner of the restaurant. * **5:05 PM:** The manager glided over and magnanimously offered us red wine, white wine, or their special Tequila Cocktail. Excellent. * **5:10 PM:** A waiter appeared. We asked for the tequila. He confidently informed us that tequila costs extra. I had to explain, *"Sir, your boss literally just offered it to us."* He retreated, looking profoundly confused. * **5:15 PM:** A *different* waiter materialized and proudly presented us with two drinks, announcing they were mocktails. Now *we* were confused. Did we look like we wanted juice? * **5:20 PM:** We downed the mystery mocktails, after which they finally brought the actual wine, which thankfully hit the spot. > **Note:** We are still looking for the "snacks" the front desk promised. We suspect they are hidden in the same secret vault as the AC thermostat. > ### The Verdict They are clearly still working out the kinks of their social hour, but it’s a beautiful hotel. If I were here on vacation, I’d absolutely stay again—provided they let me hack the thermostat.
We ended up here unexpectedly after our flight was canceled and what was supposed to be a quick stop turned into 48 hours. It could have been a stressful, frustrating experience — but this hotel completely changed that. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. Esther, Ashley, and Yuliki went far beyond what anyone would reasonably expect, helping us communicate with the airline, figure out next steps, and feel supported during a really chaotic time. They were calm, proactive, and genuinely kind. We’re incredibly grateful for them. The entire hotel is impeccably designed and spotless. Every space feels thoughtful and elevated without being overdone. The staff across the board were warm and professional. Breakfast was excellent, and the gym was one of the best we’ve ever seen at any hotel — spacious, well-equipped, and filled with state-of-the-art equipment. What could have been a miserable 48 hours turned into a genuinely positive experience because of this team. We would absolutely stay here again — this time, hopefully by choice. Oh, and shout out to Miguel for great help with the baggage!
Beautiful hotel in the beautiful colonial neighborhood. They try to provide a premium experience but are quite not there yet in hospitality service experience. The reason I write this review is due to my strange and shifty checkout experience that left me feeling like I would had been overcharged if I hadn’t done the calculation myself. Welcome drinks are a good idea only if they’re actually good. It was sweet juice which took a bit of the magic away from a welcome drink for two adults, 20 minutes after their free wine happy hour ended. This morning at check out the gentleman wanted to charge me for all my consumption without providing my receipt. Then when I received my receipt I noticed he wasn’t applying my $100 credit provided during my booking via my credit card travel agency. Then the exchange rate he was using was unknown, we aligned on that he did the math, it was wrong. I went from owing him 3,000 DOP to 570 DOP. It was 6am so he must have been tired but the lack of transparency makes a tourist feel like they avoided getting scammed. He also seemed annoyed I booked a taxi myself. The exceptional experience we had from our stay was with the gentleman working in the cigar lounge. He was friendly, attentive, cut and lit the cigar with talent. His recommended cigar tasted exactly how he described it, it was a real treat. This man is a natural at customer service. It was 11pm on March 27, 2026. I wish I knew his name because I would love to leave a letter of appreciation.
Overall experience was incredible and memorable for all the right reasons. Joel was top notch with his service from the moment we arrived til the moment we left. Hotel was very clean and included breakfast was a great addition with ample variety. Definitely will consider staying here again.
