I visited Masalo Salon while on vacation in the Dominican Republic. Since I couldn’t finish my hair before leaving home, I looked online and found this salon with great reviews, especially on TikTok. The experience itself was pleasant, and the staff was friendly. However, I allowed the stylist to use her own product instead of mine, and unfortunately, that decision damaged my hair. The top section of my hair is now stringy and thin, the front has noticeably thinned out, and my hair continues to fall out. I’m extremely upset with the results. I truly believe if I had used my own product, this would not have happened. The product they used—a light green gel (brand unknown)—is what caused the damage, and I strongly recommend the salon reconsider using it. Update (9/20/25): I spoke with the owner, who is genuinely a lovely person and very attentive. I still recommend visiting, but if you’re not used to being in the DR, be mindful about the water. If you’re uncomfortable, it may be best to bring your own products that you know work for you. The owner personally tests all the products used here, which shows her dedication and care for clients.❤️

I don’t know the language YET but these amazing women made it work and did a beautiful job! The salon is unique and decorated with art featuring all kinds of coily hair. The price they quoted is what I paid. The work is done with great care. I felt safe and comfortable. They have coffee and accessories and I didn’t even have to shop for hair! They looked at my inspiration photo carefully to be sure they got me the style I wanted. I was already going to return but after seeing how they treated my 7yodaughter with autism I know I have found the best place for me and my girl. They were patient, understanding, kind, and willing to help us with an appointment that can be difficult for a child struggling with sensory issues. I could just cry. This is the place where I would send my neighbor, my sister, or a coworker to be taken care of.

Removed 1 star because of how Carolina made my sister feel doing her hair. She should be mindful that people may understand her when she talks badly about them in her chair. But 5 stars for Malina, who did my mother's crotchet &10 stars for Melody, who did my boho knotless. They were extremely friendly and took the time to see if we were satisfied throughout the process. The Carolina lady got upset when asked to add more boho and then proceeded to mock my sister for asking.... outside of that, it was a great experience.

My second visit. Exceptional. I don't know what products I was using before this appointment, but they left a residue like dandruff. After drying my hair, they washed it again with a special scalp product. My hair was cleaner and my braids even better. I recommend this salon to anyone who wants braids. I got crochet fauz locs.

March 2026...Excellent crochet service for a wedding. I felt right at home ❤️
