I had found this place after searching for museums in Santo Domingo and was intrigued by the location. We came on a Saturday to check it out and feel in love with this small but charming museum. They had an exhibit for Antonio Prats-Ventós and it was really wonderful! The museum is on the upper floor of the Honda dealership, and you can park outside in the lot then ask a sales personnel for the museum and they'll take you to the elevator that allows you to go upstairs. The docents and curators were so friendly and welcoming and though the gallery isn't huge the pieces were really beautiful. Paintings, sculpture, drawings, carvings, it was a range of media and very beautiful. I came to appreciate how ubiquitous Prats-Ventós' work is on the Dominican Republic. This was a fun trip and all four of us enjoyed it. No admission fee to enter, open until noon on Saturday.
Fairly small exhibition but many great pieces. Very recommended!
Pros : 1. It's free 2. The permanent exhibition is quite vast, interesting and with various amazing Dominican Artists 3. It was empty so I had the venue for myself. Enough time to look around and enjoy the art collection. 4. The receptionist lady was very nice. 5. It. Is. Free. Cons : 1. It is hard to find. Inside the Honda building, last floor. Better ask them for help directly. Limited parking. 2. The sculpture room is very small and very very few artists. 3. You have to leave your bag on a couch at the entrance. I was alone so I didn't mind but still... Lockers would be more "safe". If you are an art lover, I really recommend this Museum. It is one of my highlight in Santo Domingo
This private museum of modern art is very nice, it's not too big, but has a good exhibition of permanent artists of the last century and some others from beginning of 2000 years. It's not easy to find, because it's inside of the big car seller shop Honda, and you need ask for the entry. But if you move to the Museum level at the top of the building ... it's definitely worth the visit. Enjoy it!
Marvelous collection of Artists of the Dominican Republic. Located above Honda car dealership. The museum security guard will escort you to the entrance of the collection
