I visited this Museum while in port for an eight day Carnival Eastern Caribbean cruise. La Romana , Dominican Republic was the second of four stops. We were able to purchase a bus ride at the port to Altos De Chavon for $5 each and while exploring the area I noticed the Amber museum.
Excellent, and something we, as successful amber hunters from Spo/North Sea, wouldn't have expected here. Beautifully presented and well explained.
It's a small, welcoming museum, perhaps not very well-known. Interestingly, amber is a very common natural element in this area, as is Taíno art and pre-Columbian history. If you're in the area, please support the museum and its initiative. And if you can buy one of the amber pieces, you'll be helping to bring the center to life.
For those who think the Dominican Republic is just a beach destination, this is an excellent option to learn a little more about the culture of the Taíno people... the island's native indigenous people.
Everything is so beautiful, it's located at the entrance of a jewelry store; an amazing way to attract customers 😌🩵
