You can’t visit santiago without coming to eat at Campuno. The service is always good and the Dominican food is incredible. I had a chicharron mofongo and it was incredible. The portion might have been too much. I also had a grape mojito and it was delicious. The decor in the restaurant gives you plenty to see. Ill keep coming back!
I’ve seen tons of videos about this restaurant on Instagram, and I just had to give it a shot! It was such a lovely experience—the atmosphere and drinks were fantastic. The food was also good, though I was really hoping for a standout mofongo, and it didn’t quite hit the mark. Everything else was great, and I’m definitely planning to return. We also tried the croquetas de pollo, and they were absolutely delicious!
This place was amazing from start to finish. Once we entered the establishment we were greeted by several employees and staff. We were seated fast with no wait. Waiters are extremely courteous and have great attention to details, She spoke to us about recommending things off the menu to start and was very attentive and took our questions and answered them in a timely manner. Service was fast setting up for our orders to get to the table. Wife and I ordered the Goat croquettes and the trio empanadas which came with chicken, cheese, and beef accompanied with their house made Mama Juana Ketchup which elevated the flavor of the empanadas. The Goat croquettes were flavorful, tender and amazing, make sure you pair that with the ketchup and ask for their hot sauce which kicked it up a notch. For our main dishes I ordered the Fried Rice also known as Chofan which can be compared to a house special fried rice (chicken, beef, shrimp, and eggs usually come poached but I asked for it to be scrmabled in the rice itself which they had no problem on changing, but the flavor was so well rounded and enhanced with a sweetness in the backend. Side came with tosotones (fried green plantains), make sure you dip in that house made ketchup, it's to die for. My wife ordered the Rabo Encendio (Braised and Smoked Oxtail) accompanied with the typical white rice, beans and sweet plantains. This dish was delicious and tender to the touch Oxtail with great flavor plus a bit of a smoky finish which enhanced the overal flavor. The whole platter was amazing. Would definitely recommend everything we ordered. The decor from front to end was nicely done with the cultural Dominican setting, bathrooms were clean and amazing. Valet parking is available for anyone needing it. Parking might be difficult depending on time of day, but well worth it. Would recommend to anyone whose around that area or close by to visit.
I had been hearing about Campuno for over a year, but my first attempt to visit didn’t materialize due to how busy it was which, in hindsight, already signaled strong market validation. On a recent return to Santiago, we strategically opted for an earlier time slot (around 6:00 PM), which allowed us to fully experience the service and ambiance. From the moment we arrived, the welcome was warm and well-managed. The environment is vibrant, thoughtfully designed, and culturally rich without feeling overwhelming. Service execution stood out: efficient, attentive, and notably consultative. It’s been a while since I experienced such a thorough explanation of menu items, including clear expectations of flavors and textures—special thanks to Mara for elevating that interaction. From a culinary standpoint, the main courses delivered exceptional value. The stuffed pork was outstanding; rich, flavorful, and memorable. The “rabo encendido,” which was my first time trying oxtail, exceeded expectations with its tenderness and depth of flavor. The red bean risotto with sweet plantain and avocado was also a well-balanced, creative interpretation of local ingredients. That said, there are a couple of opportunities for optimization: The “croquetas de chivo” are more accurately a potato-based croquette with ground sausage and a goat topping. While this was clarified prior to ordering, the overall value proposition could improve with a more prominent presence of goat relative to price point. The flan, while innovative with its coffee sauce, included raisins, something that may not align with standard expectations for this dessert. Greater transparency in the menu description would help manage expectations, or alternatively, offering a no-raisin option could enhance customer satisfaction. Putting those minor observations aside, the overall experience was highly positive. The combination of flavorful, well-executed dishes and strong service delivery clearly explains why the restaurant maintains high demand and consistent positive feedback in the market. From a value perspective, pricing feels appropriate relative to portion size and quality. I would absolutely return and would confidently recommend it; especially to international visitors looking for an elevated yet authentic Dominican dining or lunch experience.
Absolutely loved the atmosphere at El Campuno! It feels like a genuine escape from the city. The food was incredibly fresh and the service made us feel right at home. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is the parking situation; it’s quite limited and can be a bit of a struggle during peak hours. That said, the meal was worth the extra loop around the block. Highly recommend the local specialties.
