My wife and I recently stayed at the Sheraton Santo Domingo, located along the Malecón, and we had a very pleasant experience overall. The location is excellent—central to most tourist attractions in the city. La Ciudad Colonial is within walking distance, making it very convenient for shopping for souvenirs and exploring historic sites. There are also plenty of restaurants and casinos nearby, all easily accessible on foot. The street in front of the hotel can get quite busy, but that’s typical for such a densely populated city. Thankfully, the rooms are well insulated, and outside traffic noise did not disturb our stay. The hotel staff truly stood out. They were very attentive and always greeted us whenever we passed by, which made the stay feel welcoming and personal. I highly recommend upgrading to a Club Room. The upgrade is worth it for the included breakfast in the main dinning area and evening cocktail hours in the club lounge. Breakfast was excellent in the main dinning area, with a broad selection of Dominican dishes that varied daily, an omelet station, and a buffet-style spread. The only downside is that the main dinning area does not offer dinner, but dinner options are available in the lobby area for an additional cost. The hotel also has a nice outdoor pool and a decent gym. Overall, it feels like a business hotel with a touch of resort-style comfort, which we really enjoyed. I would definitely stay at the Sheraton Santo Domingo again on future trips to the Dominican Republic.
My friend and I arrived at the Sheraton at 5pm ready to check in to the hotel. The staff told us our room would be ready in about 10 minutes. Ten minutes later, the staff tells us the room will be ready in another ten minutes. We were then given two free drink coupons - which we learn later are only good for nonalcoholic beverages. Forty five minutes after arriving, we are told our room would still need another ten minutes. We were confused as check in was at 3pm. Additionally, my friend arrived at noon and tried to check in early so the staff was aware that we were going to need the room as soon as possible. Anyway, we finally receive our room keys three hours after check-in time (6pm) and we are given zero compensation for this delay. Free breakfast would have been the minimum. Nonalcoholic beverage coupons were a joke. I responded negatively to a survey that I was prompted to fill out when connecting to the WiFi and a staff member contacted our room to apologize, saying they would reach back out to compensate us. No one ever followed back up after calling about the survey. The pool was fine, the food at the pool was average, and the air conditioning was glitchy. The location was perfect for what we needed- quick Ubers to zona colonial.
We did not expect to stay here because of a cancelled Air Transat flight, but the Sheraton turned out to be a wonderful hotel to catch a few hours of sleep. Staff were great and the food was better than our Punta Cana resort
My wife, daughter and I just stayed at the Sheraton Santa Domingo and can't say enough great things. Entire staff was fantastic, especially Jonathan Quailey, Room Division Manager. I would highly recommend a stay with them and experience the fantastic environment. Marriott and Sheraton can be proud.
One of the few traditions still alive in Santo Domingo, I took my youngest daughter to visit because I want to take her to the Meson de La Cava restaurant, they upgraded our room without any issues and no extra charge, Joel the maid did an out job and the detail with the note and the flower made our staying a memorable experience.
