The Dominican Society of Pediatrics is the oldest scientific institution in our country. It was founded by the pioneers of Dominican pediatrics in the consultation room of the Ramfis Children's Hospital in Santo Domingo on July 20, 1947. Its first board of directors was composed of pediatricians Alberto Peguero, Rafael Miranda, Jaime Jorge, Rafael Santoni, and Aquiles Rodríguez, and also included Emil Kasse Acta, who was a medical student at the time. In 1932, a building was constructed on Santiago Street in Santo Domingo to house the offices of the Dominican Red Cross. However, this building was initially used as an emergency hospital and later as the Dominican Red Cross Children's Hospital, which operated from 1935 until 1939, when the first children's hospital, the Ramfis Children's Hospital, was inaugurated by the Dominican Red Cross.
