I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Trigo Cacao. When I arrived, there was a table of about 10 people, but they were still waiting for additional guests before placing their order. To avoid delays, I made sure to place my order before them. Shortly afterward, another group of four arrived with a dog and also ordered after me. To my surprise, every table received their food and drinks before I did, including the large group and the group that arrived later. When I politely expressed my concerns to the staff, I was given an explanation that simply wasn’t true. I was told the group of 4 had been sitting outside and then moved inside, but I personally saw them arrive and get out of their car before entering the restaurant. The service was disorganized, and it seems clear that a better system is needed for managing orders and ensuring customers are served fairly and in the order they arrive. To make matters worse, my food was not what I expected. I ordered the French toast with wild berries, but instead received a dish topped with kiwi (with the skin still on), green apples, and an overwhelming amount of whipped cream. If certain fruits are unavailable due to seasonality, that should be clearly communicated to customers before the order is placed. Overall, the experience was frustrating from start to finish. Between the poor service, lack of transparency, and disappointing food, I will not be returning.
Although they have the best sourdough in DR and AMAZING croissants, and their food its delicious, their personnel lack customer service, and this causes several inconveniences with the overall experience. Because their waiters are not experienced or don't have good customer, you have to repeat your order several times, confirm what you order, then sometimes remind them about your order because you have to wait for too long, same thing when you ask for the bill. This is the only negative thing that I could say about this place. They are willing to assist in assisting, though, so its not all bad. They place its cozy, and the smell of bread fills the space cocooning you in a warm smell. I highly recommend it for brunch!
Very nice and newer cafe downtown Santo Domingo. It’s a modern concept taking advantage of the Caribbean weather and proposing an outdoor experience (with indoor and climatized space also available). The coffee was on point and service very attentive. The food quality is as described in the menu and I would go visit again. Enjoy!
Nice cafe, good food. Most like mushrooms 🍄 lol. Spinach dip is amazing.
UPDATE (June 2025): They’ve moved to a bigger location and now the experience is out of this world! Still one of the best spots for breakfast. Be prepared to wait, as it tends to get busy—and yes, they sometimes run out of items, but honestly, that just reassures me that everything is fresh. We tried several dishes, and I was pleasantly surprised by how affordable everything was. Highly recommend!
