This hostel is amazing! Super cute, clean, and charming, and in a great location. The staff are friendly and I had a great experience, would definitely recommend and I’ll be back for sure! Thanks :(
I’m so glad I didn’t read the reviews before booking a stay here! On our second day, I finally looked—and wow, some of the old reviews were truly awful. People mentioned bedbugs, a filthy place, even stolen money and police being called. That could not have been further from our experience. For me and my boyfriend, Hostal Francia Santiago was a total gem. The place was clean, bright, and welcoming. The common area is huge, and our room had everything we needed—a comfy queen-sized bed, strong A/C, fan, a spotless bathroom with plenty of hot water, and blazing fast Wi-Fi. They even had wet wipes, which I thought was a really thoughtful touch. They also offer a convenient wash & fold laundry service, which was a lifesaver. Our hosts, Eucaris and Dixon (I hope I spelled that right!), are a lovely married couple who just started managing the property this past January. And you can really feel the difference. They told us the place was in rough shape when they took over—and you can see how much love and pride they’ve put into turning it around. We felt genuinely cared for during our stay. It was peaceful, cozy, and easy to relax. I truly recommend this place—take my word for it, you won’t regret staying here. Also worth mentioning: the location is fantastic—right in the heart of the city. Everything you need is within walking distance: shops, restaurants, El Monumento, Panora Exchange, parks, cafés—you name it. We even visited the beautiful Jardín Botánico, just a 15-minute drive away with no traffic. We rented a car and had no issues parking it in the indoor parking at the Hostal. Super convenient! Thank you again, Eucaris and Dixon, for a wonderful stay. We won’t forget it!
I enjoyed my stay here. The host Christina was very nice. The management was a bit strange though. Sometimes it felt like an abandoned hostel. It seems to have many different names too. So your experience will depend on factors. I think the owner should establish it more, to be better managed. They don't have a reception. Its like a casually run hostel. The location is prime! on the main road of Calle del Sol, very safe area with many things around to explore.
My money was stolen here by staff. Lots of potential, however the staff is not honest and there is no security on this property. I stayed here and my luggage was broken into. When this happened, my luggage was in a secured room that is locked, which only accessible by staff. When I return to my luggage, there was $1000 USD, in pesos, missing and the lock on my luggage was no longer there. I reported the incident to Police. The national police did come to the property and investigate. They found that the video surveillance footage had been deleted for that day. What an interesting coincidence. Even with that footage missing, the owner still brushed it off and did not take responsibility. She did everything in her power to try to deny it. Then later in online forums, she tried to say terrible things about me that we’re not true. Because she comes from a known family in Santiago, nothing happened to her or with that incident. And when she sees this comment, just know that I am back in the country and you are a typical dishonest Dominican. I know much more about the culture now and your behavior is typical. Shame on you. I would not stay here again and I do not recommend this property to anyone who wants a safe and secure place to stay.
The Hotel has a good location close to the monumental area which is the city center. I asked for a room with a private bathroom and they didn't have any available then I stayed in a room with shared bathrooms, I should say the bathrooms were clean and never were busy or I must wait for my turn. It's a little tricky to control the water temperature and can take you some minutes to learn how to use it. The room with shared bathrooms are smaller than I thought and I don't see the others one to see the difference. The place is not prepared for people with disabilities, the hotel has WiFi, and a kitchen all the guest can use. They include breakfast in the morning (cornflake) they're places close where to get good food. At night the hall light could be intense so I don't like it and I turned it off. They have laundry service which it has extra cost and cleaning service free.
