After having confirmed availability and delivery of a vehicle 2 days ahead, they just canceled 3 hours before with a lame excuse after I contacted them to confirm again... don't bother.
This guy is a scam. First he said he has the car and reserved it for me, then when I arrived in Samana, he said he doesn't have the car. Then he sent me to another guy to rent me a car for the day after. The other guy has a body shop! and rented me a car. When I returned the car, he said the car was damaged (which was actually the damage from before and I had photos of it) and charged me 100$. So be careful these people are rip off organized crime.
We had a great experience renting a car here. You are expected to pay a deposit in cash which they paid back in full upon return. We also forgot an expensive item in the car and they called us and texted immediately to let us know they found it and we greatly appreciated their honesty and integrity. The car was very reliable and good for navigating a road with quite a few potholes. Thank you to the kind and gracious staff!
What an awful experience. - we agreed on a price when booking, and then then they tried to overcharge us when paying - we chose Xamana as we needed a larger car. But it wasn’t available when picking up and had to take a small one instead - they returned 2000DOP less than our original deposit. After getting 3 different excuses why we were overcharged, they settled with the reason that we gave 2000 less in our deposit. They never wrote the deposit amount on the invoice/receipt, so we were trapped with their version of events. - they were rude, didn’t deliver what was agreed, and then ripped us off.
To give some context, in my life I probably rented c.350 rental cars, both from large agencies (Avis, Europcar, Sixt) and from "man-and-a-car" agencies. Overall I would not rent from them again as I had a bad experience. He gave us a very smelly car (smelled like vinegar), when asked about it, he blamed us for it. I bought air freshener etc, but it wouldn't go away. Again, we were blamed for it. When he finally came to look at it in the context of the battery breaking down (see below), he found a bag of rotten disgustingly smelling vegetables in the trunk of the car where the spare wheel is with flies and a very nasty smell. Clearly a previous (probably disgruntled) customer left it as a present. What annoyed me most, is that the owner Fabian blamed us for it previously without investigating or taking care of the problem. A few days later the car broke down, it took a lot of shouting and arguments in Spanish for him to come down and replace the battery. Overall hassle not worth having on holidays unless you enjoy shouting in Spanish or having a bad experience.
